Mounting Instructions
For mounting the subframe covers the following parts must be removed from the Panigale V4.
- The side fairing must be unmounted, for this you will need to remove first the tank cover, key guard and inner fairing covers. ( YouTube video how to remove the fairing, thanks to Troy Gleason) The smaller side fairing parts and the belly pan can be left on for the montage.
- The seat including the aluminum bracket must be removed.
- The tank must be lifted up - do yourself a favor and make sure it is almost empty- makes it easier.
Below on the pictures you will see what you have to remove to lift the tank up.
With this method it is "not" necessary to disconnect the fuel line
pull the cable off on the left side of the tank remove the two hoses on the left side
remove srews on the left and on the right side remove the two srews under the seat
slide the tank to the side to have access to
now lift carefully the tank, the front part first the screws of the original subframe covers
Layout the mounting kit parts included in the delivery as shown.
You will also need a bit of masking tape.
TIP: Before you start unscrewing the original plastic subframe cover, lay a cloth in the space over the heatshield behind the rear header.
This is catch any screws which might fall into the black hole never to be seen again.
Remove inside the subframe the 4 screws (M4) on the right and left with a 2.5mm Allenkey wrench.
The plastic cover will need to be pulled off with a bit of force since the back is attached with a velcro pad and the front with a type of clamp fastener.
With a 4mm Allen wrench remove the screws from the seat undertray and pull the front of the part up and to the side as shown below.
TIPS:
1) Before starting with the actual montage, take a "dry run" to familiarize yourself with the process.
2) It is very helpful to have a second set of hands to hold the undertray away from the frame in the area of the passenger footpeg mounts
because the lip of the carbon part will need to go between the subframe and the undertray.
3) It is advisable to put a bit of tape on the heat sheild to protect from scratches during the actual mounting process.
4) It is also advisable if you already have OUR frame covers mounted to place some tape where the two parts meet during the mounting as well.
The purpose of the aluminum foil is in case you EVER want to remove the carbon covers, the black adhesive is not directly on the frame.
Mounting this foil piece eliminates needing to scratch the adhesive from the frame.
Remove the yellow paper from the back of the Aluminum foil and apply this side to the frame as shown below.
Now snip the top from the syringe with the black adhesive and apply it in 4 stripes onto the aluminum foil.
Place the carbon cover over the subframe and using the supplied M5 & M8 stainless steel screws and washers.
Please gently by hand lightly tighten the screws.
With even pressure push the carbon cover in the area of the adhesive.
There are small foam pads which were included in the mounting kit.
These you will need to place between the lower end of the carbon part and the heat sheild to keep the placement during the 5 to 6 hour curing time for the adhesive.
Pictured below with red arrow, you see near the tape you placed for the scratch protection.
After allowing the curing time and the adhesive is dry, you can tighten the screws with the following torque:
Allen screw M5 with 2.5 Nm, 3mm Allen wrench.
Allen screw M8 with 4.0 Nm, 5mm Allen wrench.
Remove the foam pad, clean up the tape you placed for scratch protection and mount all the original parts back as you removed them.
